Surrounded by horses at his family farm in eastern France as a child, it was perhaps inevitable that the young Simon would develop a passion for show jumping. Born into a family of horse lovers, Simon’s father Marcel Delestre was a showjumper himself and has been the Frenchman’s biggest career influence. In childhood Simon took part in several junior competitions and cites his first pony gold medal as his most memorable career moment. Many years later, Simon Delestre ranked number 10 in the world in 2011. He has collected an impressive record of performances, from a win for his team at the Continental Championships in Hartpury aged just 19 (2000), to victories at Global Champions Tour 5* shows and 16th place at the World Cup final in Leipzig in 2011. He describes Global Champions Tour as the ‘best competition in the world.’
