Born into a family of equestrians, Michael Whitaker began competing on ponies at the tender age of 7. He went on to make his international debut aged just 16 and at 20 he became the famous Hickstead Derby’s youngest winner. His most memorable career moment is winning the European Championship with his team at Rotterdam. Other notable achievements include 2nd place at the World Cup final in Las Vegas in 2005 and 3rd place with his team at the Continental Championships in Mannheim in 2007. 2011 and 2012 have been good years for the England-born rider , a win at the CSI 4* Grand Prix in Amsterdam and 5th place at the CSI 5* in Basel. A determined rider, his parents remain his biggest influence and his advice to other riders is to always keep trying.
