Beginning horseback riding at just 3 years old, José Maria rode in Argentina until the age of 20 before giving it up to move to Europe and concentrate on other work. His love of horses undaunted however, he began riding again in 2003 at the age of 34. Just five years later in 2008, he went clear in the Lyon Grand Prix, which was a pivotal moment for him, proving that he could indeed compete at the highest level of the sport.
Since then he has continued to achieve success after success, coming 3rd at the Zurich Grand Prix, 6th at the Valencia Grand Prix and 6th at the Patrignano Granx Prix – all in 2009. 2011 and 2012 have also been good years for José Maria, with 4th place position at Frankfurt Grand Prix (2011) and 6th place position at the Valkenswaard Grand Prix (2012). A determined rider, José Maria has always taken his greatest inspiration from his father, who remains consistently positive no matter what. His personal motto is: “Always believe in yourself.”
